When it comes to external storage solutions most manufacturers tend to only focus on the READ speeds of their devices, and do not focus on the WRITE speeds. This is because the write speeds tend to be a lot slower, and not ideal for data back-up.

With the release of the AV Pro, CalDigit has made an external storage solution that has identical read and write speeds – 430MB/s! Other manufacturers use terms like “Average Transfer Rates”, and they only quote one speed. Does that mean that the speed quoted is for both the read and write performance, or just for the read speed? Many manufacturers, for some of their products, don’t even quote transfer speeds at all. They choose to only quote the maximum bandwidth available on the interfaces of their storage device e.g 5GB/s for USB 3.0! That’s all well and good, but it doesn’t tell me what type of performance that drive is actually capable of!
